WHY IS THE GRASS BROWN?

As we all know California is in a SEVERE drought. You may notice the grass is brown following mowing by the lanscapers, in an effort to save water and dramatically decrease the amount of runoff we are experiencing the landscapers will be scalping the grass. This means they will be lowering the blade with each mowing, slowly removing the layers and layers of thatch which have built up (in some areas a few inches - note the raised grass along side walks). By Nov/Dec the grass should be down to basically soil allowing fresh new grass to grow in for next season, decreasing our maintenance and water usage without a significant expenditure by the community. This method will help save us from having to remove all the grass and the costs associated with relandscaping with drought friendly plants.
